Opportunities for Canada in the New India
In this address, Mr. Vikas Swarup, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, invites Canadian companies and individuals to discover the abundant investment opportunities in India. He also shares a narrative to inspire Canadians to engage in India’s unparalleled advancement.
Mr. Vikas Swarup graduated from the University of Allahabad and joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1986. In a diplomatic career spanning more than 30 years, he served in missions in Ankara, Washington DC, Addis Ababa, London, Pretoria and Osaka-Kobe. He also served as the Desk Officer for Southern Africa, US & Canada, Director for Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan, and Director in charge of the Office of the Minister of External Affairs. After serving as Joint Secretary United Nations, he was appointed the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in April 2015 until his most recent appointment as the High Commissioner of India to Canada.
Mr. Swarup is also the author of several novels which have been translated into over forty international languages, most notably Q&A, which was adapted as the multiple Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. He has written for several prestigious publications such as TIME, Newsweek, The Guardian, The Financial Times (UK) and Liberation (France).
Mr. Swarup is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Literature and Philosophy by the University of South Africa.Register now
