Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday

As you may know, today is the well-known shopping day, Black Friday. Having originated in the US and taking place the day after US Thanksgiving, it has been adopted by retailers in Canada. With its larger than normal expected discounts, Black Friday is the unofficial launch to the holiday shopping season. With the mission of The West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce being to support its local businesses, we would like to remind you of another tradition that has taken root; Small Business Saturday.

The name says it all: on the Saturday after Black Friday, you are encouraged to shop locally to support businesses in your neighbourhood.  Created by American Express in 2010, the Small Business Saturday campaign is in line with The Chamber’s values.

With the Holidays fast approaching, buying local is more than just encouraging our local businesses. Visiting the corner store in one of our beautiful villages is like discovering new places, getting to know new merchants, helping your community to grow and making you feel like you are making a difference in your neighbourhood.

That is why we encourage you to support your community by remembering the Small Business Saturday campaign on Saturday, November 24th, and any other Saturday for that matter.
