An Event to Celebrate Excellence in our West Island Business Community
On June 8, the West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce was delighted to welcome its business community to the gala of the 36th edition of the Accolades competition. This annual event recognizes the excellence of West Island businesses and non-profit organizations by awarding Accolades prizes to highlight their successes and initiatives that have had an impact on our community.
This year, we were pleased to welcome more than 325 people from the West Island business community, business leaders, community organizations and elected officials who came together to connect and network in the presence of the finalists in the 10 categories of the Accolades competition. The event took place at the Montreal Airport Marriott In-terminal Hotel. The theme of the evening was “Excelleration” which combines “excellence” and “acceleration” which are two qualities associated with the hard-working companies of our territory that value innovation and collaboration.
Joseph Huza, President & Executive director of the Chamber, expressed that “This West Island’s territory, which stretches from Lachine to Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, is characterized as being highly educated and bilingual. It is home to three post-secondary educational institutions as well as an international airport. The territory’s proximity to the US and Ontario borders is served by 3 major road arteries to facilitate the flow of goods. It is home to diverse industries such as aerospace, pharmaceutical, logistics and transportation, just to name a few. Growing industries such as cloud-based management companies now call the West Island their home. The Chamber plays a role in advocating on behalf of its members to ensure growth of the business community at large. The Chamber believes that Strong Businesses Build Strong Communities.”
The Accolades Program
The Chamber launched the Accolades competition in January 2023. The members of the Accolades Organizing, Nominations, Grand Jury and Independent Jury committees along with Chamber business community partners joined together to assemble a stellar group of companies and organizations to take part in the competition.
This year’s Accolades competition was led by Marco Della Rocca, who served as President of the Accolades Committee and had this to say about this important event:
“Since 1986, the Accolades competition has been organized by volunteer members of the West Island business community and this year is no exception. It has been an enriching experience working with the 2023 Committee to seek out the most successful and innovative businesses and organizations in our community.
The West Island of Montreal business community has long been renowned for its dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit. The West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce is proud to honour the accomplishments of our local businesses and recognize the tremendous determination, hard work and creativity they have demonstrated in achieving their success. Congratulations to all of the finalists! A special thank you to our partners and the many volunteers involved in this major event.”
