The WIMCC Acknowledges the Régie de l’énergie’s Decision Regarding Hydro-Québec’s Saint-Jean Project

Pointe-Claire, February 8th, 2016 – On behalf of its members, The West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce (the “WIMCC”) recognizes the decision (French only) of the Régie de l’énergie which has authorized Hydro-Québec’s Saint-Jean Project in the West Island of Montreal. The project will allow economic development and growth in the West Island.

“The WIMCC supports Hydro-Québec in this project as it represents an investment in the economic development of our territory”, claims Joseph Huza, Executive Director of the WIMCC. “This project will fill the need for future growth as companies continue to choose the West Island to set up their operations”, he concludes.

In its decision on January 29, 2016, the Régie agrees that the conversion of the Saint-Jean station is necessary to respond to the West Island’s needs in electricity.

The project plans to convert the tension of the station and to build a new 3 km line of 315 kV next to an existing 120 kV line. The project is to be completed by spring 2019 with a total investment of $90M.

The WIMCC recognizes Hydro-Québec’s efforts in improving the pathway of the existing line by proposing landscaping and recreational areas between the Saint-Jean and des Sources boulevards, for the betterment of all of the West Island community.
