Strategic Meeting on Public Safety in the West Island
Pointe-Claire, May 25, 2026. Elected officials from the West Island, the Chamber of Commerce, and Montréal’s emergency services gathered in Pointe-Claire on May 4 for a strategic meeting focused on the region’s key public safety priorities.
Organized by the West Island of Montréal Chamber of Commerce, the session was held at the initiative of Mayor Jim Beis, who serves as the Executive Committee member responsible for public safety for the City of Montréal. In this role, Mayor Beis oversees the coordination of citywide public safety issues and supports initiatives aimed at protecting residents and businesses across the island.
The meeting provided a clear overview of current challenges, including evolving crime trends, growing prevention needs, the condition of emergency service infrastructure, and the rapid transformation of the territory, particularly increased densification and the arrival of the REM.
Representatives from the Montréal Police Service (SPVM) and the Montréal Fire Department (SIM) presented their assessments, priorities, and strategies to ensure the safety of the population. Elected officials reaffirmed the importance of maintaining a strong on-the-ground presence and strengthening collaboration to effectively address community concerns.
This initiative represents an important step toward reinforcing coordination between municipalities, emergency services, and the business community. It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring a safe, dynamic, and prosperous environment for all residents of the West Island.
