About Robert Piché
Robert Piché, Speaker, Author and Former Pilot that Saved over 300 people over the Atlantic Ocean
Robert Piché is the Canadian pilot famed for safely landing Air Transat Flight 236 on August 24, 2001. When an Airbus A330 from Toronto to Lisbon lost all engine power over the Atlantic due to a fuel leak, Piché and First Officer Dirk De Jager glided the jet roughly 120 km to the Azores, saving all 306 people aboard—one of the longest successful glides in commercial aviation. Celebrated as a hero, Piché later shared the story in an autobiography and has since focused on speaking engagements, using the incident to teach practical lessons on leadership, decision-making under pressure, and teamwork.
